Graphite electrode is a cylindrical carbon conductive material manufactured from needle coke and calcined petroleum coke as aggregate, coal tar pitch as binder. The production process includes raw material calcination, kneading, extrusion, baking, high-pressure impregnation, graphitization and precision machining. It is classified into RP Regular Power, HP High Power and UHP Ultra-High Power grades, used together with matched graphite nipples.
Graphite electrode is an essential conductive consumable for electric arc furnace steelmaking and submerged arc furnace smelting. Heavy electric current passes through electrodes to generate electric arc with temperature over 3000°C to melt furnace charge. It features dense and uniform structure, low resistivity, excellent thermal & electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength at high temperature, low thermal expansion coefficient, good thermal shock resistance and low ash content.
